After playing a little with impulse 101 I learned that it takes only one pistol (or any other bullet) shot to force glados to realease one orb. Then I came up with an idea how to shoot glados without any cheats.

Gentlemen.

Now you're thinking with portals.

Matryomin Theremin Sings Me Scared
atlas
[info]spacecowb0y
Japanese theremin maker Mandarin Electron has embedded a pitch only theremin inside a Russian matryoshka doll dubbed "Matryomin" as a means of creating art with art. For those of you who don't know, the theremin is an old-timey electronic instrument that can be played without actually being touched. Apparently, Matryomin can be "easily manipulated" to produce sounds that seem to emanate from the doll as a singing voice.

Trent Reznor's Newest Collaboration Does a Radiohead
atlas
[info]spacecowb0y

Following in the footsteps of Radiohead's overwhelming successful release of In Rainbows through direct web distribution, Trent Reznor and Saul Williams are taking a similar approach with the release of The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! Estimates range from $5-12 million in download revenue that Radiohead has earned so far from their on site distribution efforts. Despite those numbers there is still some skepticism as to how successful lesser known artists will be using similar self distribution methods. The success or failure of The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! will be a major indicator of how the future of music distribution will play out.

The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! will be available for download with a choice of choice of DRM-free 192kbps or 320kbps mp3 file sizes November 1 at http://niggytardust.com/saulwilliams/menu. Pre-orders are being taken on the site now with a suggested artist donation of $5 but will also be available for free as well. Saul Williams will kick off world wide tour in support of the release starting with a show at Washington State University November 2.

Some of you may know I'm a pretend cultured person. I have secret fetishes for fountain pens, pocket watches, and classical music/opera. This, my new favorite IPTV show, has rekindled my interest in the not-so-secret world of wine tasting/food connoisseur-ing.

I hate his voice but I love his skill, so see if you like it and check out more episodes at the source if you do.

Bob Ostertag - w00t
atlas
[info]spacecowb0y

In March of 2006, I put all my recordings to which I owned the rights (14 CDs) up for free download from this site. w00t is my first release to skip the CD-for-sale stage and go directly to free Internet download, under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. Please download, copy, send to your friends, remix, mutilate, and mash-up. And please support this attempt to build free culture by sending a link for w00t to your friends. w00t consists of a 50-minute sound collage, a 4.5 minute sound “trailer,” and associated “cover art.” There is, however, no cover. w00t is a free, internet-only release. w00t was composed entirely from fragments of music from these computer games:

Balloon Fight • Congo Bongo • Contra • Earthbound • Halo: Combat Evolved • Ico • Katamari Damacy • Killer Instinct • The Legend of Zelda • Massive Assault • Myst • Star Fox • Super Metroid • Super Smash Bros.: Melee • Viewtiful Joe • WarioWare, Inc: Mega Party Game$ • World of Warcraft

Images from these same games were included in the w00t art work.

The w00t music began as the sound for Special Forces, a live cinematic performance by Living Cinema (Pierre Hébert and Bob Ostertag), which addressed the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006.

I'd try the trailer first if I were you - this is not so much music as it is a sound collage like the composer says, and the experimental nature of the composition is a little off-putting. It sounds a lot like those eclectic sound fillers they put in radio station advertisements. It's not even Aphex Twin experimental, at least not from where I was sitting. Still, may appeal to some of you (personally I'd keep it around to sample from).
